Drug Project WebQuest Process

Drug Project Process

You will be creating a brochure in Word or Publisher, a Web site, or a PowerPoint presentation.  You will need to work on this assignment at home to complete it on time.  Be sure you have the programs on your PC to complete the work.

Requirements

Use class time wisely to complete your research.

Complete your research during class, in study hall or at home.  Internet access will help in your research.

Have a rough draft or sloppy copy approved before you begin your final work.

A picture must be imported onto the cover of your brochure, web page or PowerPoint presentation.

You will need to include three (3) bibliographies of resource materials in your project.

You will need to include three (3) substance treatment facilities in Franklin County in your project.

Each drug is different. You may not be able to find all the information required by your outline for the project.  The suggested topic areas are only a guideline to help your research you can change your project information with permission of the instructor.  You will need to make sure you uncover as much information about your drug.

 

Topic Areas for the Project

1.                   A short introductory paragraph about the drug.

2.                  How the drug is introduced or taken into the body.

3.                  Short-term effects of the drug.      (24 to 48 hours)

4.                  Long-term effects of the drug.      (Months and/ or years of use)

5.              Effects of abuse on the body systems and/or organs.

Your drug may affect many different body systems or organs.

Choose one body system or organ and describe how the drug affects them.

Describe how the drug affects the brain.  You will need to list the positive effects (if any) and the negative effects.  Be as specific as possible with your information.

 6.       Type of addiction or dependence:  

You will need to determine if the drug causes physical or psychological addiction or both.  The definitions are below.  Check your resources to make the determination.

 

Physical or Psychological Addiction

Physical Addiction or Physical Dependence:

The body needs the drug to survive the body becomes dependent on the drug. It also means the person builds tolerance to a drug, which means they need larger and larger doses of that drug to get the same effects.  When a person is physically addicted stops using the drug they may experience withdrawal. 

Psychological Addiction or Dependence:

Psychological Addiction may happen along with physical addiction or on its own.  Psychological addiction is a mental craving for a drug.  People who are psychologically addicted feel overcome by the desire to have the drug. 

7.                   Withdrawal symptoms if any.

            8.          Overdose symptoms.

9.                  Slang (street) names for your drug. (No more than 5)

10.               Slang terms that deal with how your drug is used or taken.

11.               Overdose Symptoms

12.               Paraphernalia used to use the drug.

13.               Effects of the drug during pregnancy on the mother and  fetus.           

14.               Any medical uses of the drug either past or present.

15.               Three treatment centers located in Franklin County and/or the Franklin County area.
